In last Sunday’s message, Tis the Season to Worship Wisely, we talked about being careful of the many distractions that come at Christmas time. Instead, we need to be careful to keep Christ the focus of our worship, especially throughout the Christmas season. The challenge was given to each person to start their day off daily with this prayer…“Lord, I give you me today, in every way!”
The question is then asked, what does it mean to give yourself to God? In Matt. 22:37-39, Jesus breaks it down for us in the form of love. He simply says,”You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
The core of what God wants from us is LOVE. He wants you to love Him with…
1. Your Heart – To Love God with your affections. (Singing, clapping hands, raising hands, kneeling, etc.)
2. Your Soul – Love God from your inner-most being. (Your attitude)
3. Your Mind – Love God with your thoughts.
4. Your Obedience – Love God by loving others.
In Bud Blake’s “Tiger” comic strip two little boys were talking about Christmas. One said, “My folks got us an artificial tree this year.” The other little guy asked, “Does that bother you?” “No”, was the response, “just as long as the gifts are real.”
In worshiping Christ, this Christmas, let’s just keep it “real”!
