One of my favorite Bible stories is also a very challenging part of scripture for me to grasp. It deals with the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who are confronted with the decision to either bow down and worship a public image or be burned alive inside a blazing furnace. Yet, these guys see their situation very differently than what we often do. Check out their response to King Nebuchadnezzar found in Daniel 3:16-18…
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
Did you see that? These guys know that God is more than able to save them. Yet, even if He chooses not to save them, they are still going to obey God anyhow. Wow! I love faith like that. Faith that’s convinced that God can do anything, yet, it’s also a faith to trust God even through the flames.
I believe the Apostle Paul had this same kind of faith… Eph. 3:20 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Mark Batterson, in his book, “The Circle Maker” says, “With God, it’s never an issue of “Can He?” It’s only a question of “Will He?” And while you don’t always know if He will, you know He can. And because you know He can, you can pray with holy confidence.”
I don’t know if you are going through any fiery difficulties or challenges in your life right now, but I want to remind you of this…GOD IS ABLE! Put your trust in Him, obey what you know to be true, even through the flames, and watch Him show up in ways you never imagined.
