Happy Father’s Day Dads! The Bible says that being a Dad carries with it a huge responsibility. One of the major responsibilities is found in Proverbs 22:6 ESV Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

That’s right Dad, as the spiritual leaders in our homes, we have the great responsibility of “training up” our children in their faith journey. If there was a two word job description for Dad’s, it would be “ROLE-MODEL.” And because our children learn best by example over anything else, your life needs to MODEL the way.

In (Deut. 6:4-9), the Bible gives men 5 powerful ways to MODEL how to live out our faith journey with God.

#1 Make God your one and only god. He will not stand for anything less than being #1 in your life. This means, getting rid of anything in your life that would represent competition to Him.

4 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.

#2 Love God with everything you’ve got. When you begin to love God with all you’ve got, you can’t help but love other people in your life more. Loving God ignites a stronger flame of love for your wife and children. Just try it and see if your wife and kids notice the difference. That’s why Jesus makes this His greatest commandment.

5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

#3 Commit to live your life God’s way and not your own. Learn to surrender your ways of living and submit to His way to Life and see if there’s not a huge difference in the peace-level of your heart.

6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.

#4 Teach your kids God’s Word. Let them hear you quote scripture and tell stories from the Bible to help them build their faith. I can say that hearing my Dad repeat scripture verses over and over again while growing up helped me understand God in a more powerful way. Dad’s, your kids need to hear you speak what you believe!

7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

#5 Live with Integrity. This means God has become such a foundation in your life that no one is confused by what you say and what you do.

8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Dad’s…Nobody can take your place. You are the man that God has placed in your children’s lives. Be the man God has called you to be. Be the ROLE-MODEL your children need you to be.

Happy Father’s Day!
