The past few weeks, we’ve been on a sermon series entitled, THE GENEROUS JOURNEY. Our God is a generous God. Through His generosity, He wants us to live generous lives through our giving. When the Bible talks about giving we are to be generous givers not only with your finances but our time, talent and possessions. It’s basically challenging us not to live our lives selfishly, but to give back to God to others a portion of what He has given to you.

In (2 Corinthians 9:6-8), the Bible gives us instructions on HOW we are to give.

“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”

How God wants us to Give:

1. Generously – In verse 6, we are reminded of the Law of the Harvest. If you only plant a small amount, that’s all it will produce. OR…If you want a generous harvest, you have to plant a generous crop. Be generous in your giving and begin to take notice in life how the Law of Harvest begins to pour back blessings and favor in your life.

2. Right attitude – In verse 7, we are challenged to give with a right attitude. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” I believe a right attitude is more important than the amount given. In fact, the right attitude will always give the right amount. One always has to check their hearts when they are giving with begrudging heart. A wrong attitude will always follow a wrong understanding of what giving is all about and where it ultimately comes from.

3. Expectantly – I think verse 8 is my favorite part in this passage. I am reminded that when I walk in obedience to how God wants me to live, He’s got my back. We can be assured that God will provide for all of your needs. Our God is a generous God.

Allow God, through this series, transform you into being the Generous Giver He has blessed you to be. Give GENEROUSLY, WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE, and EXPECTANTLY and watch God show up in your lives in which you never expected.
