I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that each year we as a society are getting farther and farther away from the true meaning of Christmas and replacing it for one that is materialistic. More and more, we have forgotten the reason for the season…Jesus Christ, God’s own son, coming to Earth to save mankind (John 3:16).
In this month’s sermon series, The Purpose of Christmas, we are examining the true meaning of what Christmas is all about. One of the reasons that we celebrate Christmas is to recognize Jesus as the King of all Kings who came to Earth to reveal himself to mankind. The Bible tells us in (Revelations 17:14) , “…he is Lord of lords and King of kings…”
If Jesus is “King of Kings”, then what does this mean to you and me? First, we need to acknowledge His Kingship, especially in the kingdom of our hearts. He is King, and we are not! Secondly, we need to surrender the reign we have in our life over to the one true King. We need to let Him rule where He rules best. Lastly, we need to submit ourselves to the leadership of this loving King.
This Christmas, I encourage you to acknowledge Jesus as your King; surrender the reign of your life over to Him; and submit yourself to His leadership. This will all happen best in the context of relationship. It’s then, and only then, that you will truly grasp the true meaning of Christmas.
